And One For The Table - an origin story

I get very nervous introducing friends to one another, the stress of will they get on or not kills me (I had to be taken home after the starter because I had drunk so much out of nerves when introducing my two oldest friends).  So, I was a little apprehensive when a friend came to lunch with myself and my husband, I needn’t have been, they got on like a house on fire and discovered a mutual love of the same foods, my husband is now supremely confident he could order for my friend anywhere.  We went to lunch at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, all very keen to witness the theatrics and glamour of it for ourselves.  The rotisserie with is glass sided mechanics on show like a giant clock, constantly turning and slow roasting glistening pineapples to be served with the Tipsy Cake dessert.  We looked at the menu and googled lots of the descriptions – what is a Salmagundi or a Frumenty?  Eventually we ordered 3 starters, 3 mains, but who would have the famous meat fruit?  We couldn’t all have it and there were other things we wanted to try too so we ordered one for the table and tranquility was restored.  The meatfruit was fantastic by the way, a smooth liver parfait masquerading as a tangerine, my stomach remembers it very fondly.  For me the most fun part of the meal was how we ate lunch, you ate a third of whatever dish you got and then passed to the left (keeping your knife and fork obvs).  We each got to try several dishes and had zero food envy, give it a go.
